People Piece

Everyone is the same, except when…

People are basically the same. No matter what shade skin tone, hair color, bank account balance, family background or life experience, we will usually cry about the same things: the death of a child, sudden tragedy, the beauty in nature and animals, to name a few. And we will laugh and feel joy about relatively the same things: birth, successes, our favorite sports team winning, watching a comedy or amazing performance, enjoying family and friends etc. You know this. It’s not earth shattering nor does it have anything to do with politics, religion, education or intelligence.

Yet despite those visual, external and quantitative measures, I do think there are only 2 types of people. Hear me out as I think I’m on to something.

There are people that drive around with stuffed animals in the back window of their car and those that don’t.

Same goes with that huge tissue box.

There are people that smack a bump sticker on a luxury car, and those that definitely do not.

There are people who litter without conscience and those who won’t.

There are those who park their car like a jerk, and those that don’t. Don’t get me started about those who never use a turn signal.

There are those who literally put mascara on while they are driving and those who do not – ever.

There are those who are STILL texting and driving and those that don’t.

There are those who hold the door for others and those who let it go.

There are those that pick up their dog crap and sadly, those that don’t.

There are those who will take all the toilet paper and hand sanitizers off the shelf during a pandemic, and there are those who will leave some ‘for others’.

There are those who use paperclips and post-it notes and those who never have any.

There are people that will FaceTime in a crowd or huge line and talk about everything your mother told you was not for public consumption.

There are those that will order their coffee without looking the server in the eye once. Same goes for a bank teller. And those who will actually take the time to talk, because, you know, they are also human beings.

There are those that will Instagram 3 meals a day and those that don’t.

Sorry but that also includes those ‘daily selfie’ people.

There are people that are happy if you’re happy and those who are only happy IF you aren’t ‘happier than they are’. Weird, but true.

Those who like Rush and those who hate that band. For the record: I love them. They are awesome. Don’t debate me.

Sometimes I see such rudeness and selfishness in humanity, I want to ‘strongly dislike’ them. Other times, I’m high-fiving strangers at a Dodgers game during an exciting moment — you’ll enjoy people in general and feel that collective spirit of humanity. You will feel that most are kind and good.

You’ll feel that until someone decides to turn on their windshield wipers to clean their window right in front of your car — while driving 70 MPH — on the freeway – – and you just washed your car.

Then you won’t like people again.

But try not to hate them.

– stay well, C. Nor
