I love many things in life and obviously fashion. And I love history of many periods, its items, artifacts, furniture and fashion, and all kind of objects. They fascinate me. Even funny little rocks from various countries or a 1700s spoon. I love it all.
This week the great granddaughter of the designer of this coat commented on my post. I’m thrilled she saw this and made herself known. It impressed upon me that this is the joy of vintage and old pieces. They have a huge history. They have the history that fast fashion never will. Like a great opera or song, it will stand the test of time. They are connected to real people, familial memories, they capture time that a throw-away piece never can.
I hope to hear from the great granddaughter again. It would more special if she made her way out to Los Angeles one of these days and to try on the coat and perhaps borrow it. Since it was my grandmother’s I plan to hold on to it a bit longer. I feel her presence on the hanger and racks in my home. Something that Shein will never understand.
